We are learning how to measure and different units of measurement.
Students are expected to be able to convert feet into inches.
For example
12 inches = 1 foot
24 inches = 2 feet
etc..
So students need to know how to figure out how many inches are in any given measurement with feet and inches
For example
The desk measures 2 feet and 6 inches. How many inches in all would that be?
2 feet = 24 inches + 6 inches. Which would equal 30 inches in all.
